PROPERTY TAXES

The Texas Tax Code  imposes deadlines for protesting tax valuation of real property and business personal property.  We represent clients in connection with tax protests of commercial property and business personal property, and in litigation of property tax appeals of residential and commercial properties all over Texas.

FRANCHISE TAXES

With the transformation of the Texas franchise tax to the so-called "margin tax", many business entities formerly exempt from taxation, including limited partnerships and foreign entities, are now required to file franchise tax returns and pay taxes.  We work closely with accounting firms representing our clients in evaluating franchise tax returns, and advise clients on strategies to minimize franchise tax liability.  We also represent clients in connection with franchise tax audits by the Texas State Comptroller of Public Accounts.

SALES TAXES

Texas has one of the most far-reaching nexus standards in the country for imposing sales taxes.  We have a long history of successful representation of clients in creating business structures and reporting practices that minimize Texas sales tax liability.  For multistate businesses, we can create strategies to optimize the average marginal sales tax rates paid by the various state sales operations. In addition to advising clients on prospective sales tax issues, we represent clients in connection with sales tax audits by the Texas State Comptroller of Public Accounts.
